![]() I wish we could have known more about Hannah and her life once she discovered what she was.ĭont get me wrong, Im not one to need every book or movie I see tied up in a clear cookie cutter way, but I was hoping to know a little more about Hannahs life once she went back to Boston. In fact, overall, I felt a little sad when the story ended. There were a couple of brief encounters between the two, and, just as their story felt like it was really getting started, the book ended. ![]() I was also intrigued by Hannahs relationship with the guest painter. I didnt immediately dive into this one and I knew where the story would eventually go pretty early on, but I kept reading because I wanted to see and feel Hannahs journey as she discovered what she was. ![]() She was able to create a very clear picture of how Hannah felt, which isnt always easy to convey. It was very detailed but it wasnt too over the top for me. When she wrote about Hannahs longing for the sea, I was drawn in. ![]() Kathryn Lasky does a great job of telling the story of Hannah. ~ From Daughters of the Sea: Hannah back cover But even as the mystery deepens, Hannah is sure of one thing. She doesnt understand his terrifying allure, or her longing. Hes a guest in the house where she works as a scullery girl, and his fascinated gaze follows her. Only one person knows who or what Hannah is. ![]() She knows theres something wild in her thats different, wrong and deeply thrilling. Billowing waves soothe her, but flat land makes her sick. The sea calls to her, and she can see a delicate tracing of scales on her legs. ![]()
